This has upset many fans of the original. Starbuck was a womanising, wheel-deeler and not forgetting his slyness pilot. Enter the new Starbuck, a cigar chomping, a person who has total disrespect for authority, hitting Col. Tigh at the start of the series. Why they made her a woman is beyond me ? Were they not aware of Lt. Athena, couldn't Katee play her and bring her character to the fore ? She was the girlfriend of Zak, Apollo's (Lee Adama's) brother who got killed in a flying incident before the Cylons attacked. Zak was passed for flying when he shouldn't have. A good pilot nevertheless. She is at odds with Tigh, the Galactica's second in command, having to spend time in the brig after hitting him. During one battle with Cylons', her ship is damaged and she crash lands on a desert planet. Also on the planet is a crashed Cylon fighter which she uses to escape from the planet and return to the fleet. Kara learns the controls of the fighter and takes it on an unauthorised flight back to Caprica to retreive an arrow. The arrow points the way to Earth. She has to use all her wits about her as she fends for herself on the Cylon occupied planet. Its not long before she joins up with Helo whose been on the planet for some time.
