| Doom
Doom was the game that really kicked off the first person shoot-em-ups that we know today. They built on their success from 'Escape from Wolfenstein' to produce a legend amongst the thousands of games that get produced every year. In the eighties, whenever a film was produced, a game tie-in would complement it ( e.g. Robocop, Total Recall, Predator to name a few ). Now the opposite is happening, films are now complimenting games. The first notable version of this turn around was the abysmal 1993 film "Super Mario Bros."
Doom doesn't escape the Hollywood habit of channging things. Its still set on Mars, it has all the creatures from the game, the IMPs, the zombies and others. There's no gateway to hell, the creatures are created by an experiment, not much different from Resident Evil then. The Marines are called in to rescue the scientists. One thing that marks this film out from all the others is that you get to see a first person perspective |
