| Dune
| Before Star Wars, Frank Herbert wrote his epic story about the planet Arrakis and the power struggle for the planet. For those not in the know, the planet is a barron, desert planet which if it wasn't for being the sole planet for the harvester of a spice 'melange', no one would be interested in it. As the planet is covered in sand and dunes, it is better known as 'Dune'. 'He who controls the spice, controls the Universe' so says Princess Alia at the beginning of 1984 film. The story begins in the book 'Dune' then continues in 'The Dune Messiah', 'Children of Dune', 'God Emperor of Dune', 'Heretic of Dune' and 'Chapterhouse: Dune'. Dune was made in 1984 and was remade by the cable channel 'Sci-fi Channel' in 2000 followed by 'Children of Dune'. The channel hasn't made the second one, don't know why yet. The planets main native inhabitents are the Worms, giant creatures that swim through the sand. It has a number of similarities between this series of films and the 'Star Wars' films. Two examples being that the most frequently visited planet is a desert planet and both main characters ( Paul ( Dune ), Luke ( Star Wars ) ) have supernatural powers.
