Synopsis |
Allegedly a first of a three part series, aren't they all like that nowadays. The film continues where the series finished. The Alliance still eager to get hold of River, assigns an assassin called 'The Operative' to hunt her down. She has information in her head which the Alliance doesn't want released to the public. They visit a planet where they encounter the Reevers but manage to escape. Due to a disagreement between Simon and Mal, the Tams are ordered off the ship at the next planet. Whilst Mal and his team are busy conducting a transaction, River walks in. She watches an advert on the television then begins to beat up all the patrons in the club before being put to sleep by a phrase said by Simon. Mal decides that they could prove to be useful in the end and bring them back onboard the craft. They visit Shephard Bok who has left the ship to set up a community on one of the planets. Mal receives a message from Inara who has also left the craft. He realises that its a trap but still decides to go. He comes face to face with the Operative who comes across as a formidable adversary. After escaping by using a stun bomb, Inara joins the rest of the crew. They return to Shephard Boks community to find out that everyone has been killed including the children. Mal decides its time to go up against the Alliance. River keeps muttering the word Miranda, an allegedly unstable, lifeless planet on the outskirts. Between them and the planet is the Reever belt so Mal orders that Firefly be disguised. They make it to the planet to find that it is perfectly terraformed with communities all over the planet. When they land, they discover everyone is dead, not killed in some horrible way. They make their way to a beacon and unravel a message in the databanks. The Reevers were allegedly men who have gone to edge of space and turned bad because of radiation. The truth is that they were once inhabitents of the planet. The Alliance had experimented on the inhabitents in attempt to pacify them. The technique worked but for ten percent, they went bad. They became the Reevers. This is what was held in Rivers brain that the Alliance is determind to prevent it from getting out as it would desttroy the them. Mal decides to visit his friend Mr Universe, a man who can feed what they've found to planets across the solar system. The Operative has got there first and kills Mr Universe after sending a message to Serenity. The Alliance are waiting for the Serenity just above Universe's planet but he is not expecting the Reever crafts that Mal brings with him. A firefight ensues with the Serenity slipping through the battle to land on the planet. The crew escape from the craft but one crew member dies. They prepare for a battle between them, the Alliance and the Reevers. Whilst the remaining members of the Serenity prepare for battle, Mal makes his way to the communications point to send the message across the planets. The Operative has escaped from the battle and enters the building. Whilst Mal makes his way to the second transmission point, the crew fight off the hoard of Reevers. River takes it upon herself to kill the Reevers single-handedly.
