| The Invaders
Who can remember the following narrative that started the series.
Invaders, alien beings from a dying planet. Their destination: the Earth. Their purpose: to make it their world. David Vincent has seen them, for him it began one lost night on a lonely country road, looking for a short cut that he never found. It began with a closed deserted diner, and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey. It began with the landing of a craft from another galaxy. Now, David Vincent knows that the Invaders are here, that they have taken human form. Somehow he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun.
The two series, one in 67 and then the following year followed the central character as he tried to prove to a disbelieving world the truth. It came after the McCarthyism period where communist sympathisers were being identified and black listed. They were seen
as dangerous to the principles of America which the Invaders were.
The only recurring character apart from David Vincent was millionaire Edgar Scolville who would provide the financial backing for David's quest.
They looked human in every way but if you look carely, you may spot some differences, check out the alien page for the differences.
There was an attempt to update the series with Scott Bakula as the lead character, Nolan Wood. Roy reprised his role as David Vincent as a special guest. The mini-series lasted three hours but wasn't comissioned to being made into a proper series. |
