Kepler 22b Could be InhabitedDecember 6, 2011, 14:43PM

Scientists are running round getting excited that a planet has been discovered orbiting a far off star that could contain life. The planet is just the right distance from its star in the Goldilocks zone to support life. The Goldilocks zone is a zone around a star where the planet is not too hot and not too cold to support life.

The planet is found in an area of space by the Lyra and Cygnusconstellations. It orbits the sun in 290 days and is closer to its star than Earth. Distance to the planet is 600 Light Years so it would take 600 years travelling at the speed of light to get there sadly. If there are any inhabitents on that planet that have faster than light speed travel, we should hope their friendly and have technology to get to us. You can read more at The Independent and The Guardian newspapers

Neutrinos, Faster than LightSeptember 23, 2011, 16:16PM

On thursday, scientists have announced that they have broken one of the fundamental laws of physics that nothing travels faster than light. The scientists at CERN, the European Centre for Nuclear Research have announced to the world that an experiment using Neutrinos fired from Geneva to a site in Italy and back travelled faster than light.

The ramifications if proven could mean time travel and warp speed, the speed at which the USS Enterprise NCC-1701A from the series Star Trek is also possible. Don`t go booking your holiday on Vulcan just yet as other scientists are to test the experiment that the CERN scientists conducted to see if they got their results correct.

One of the group of scientists that will test the experiment is the Fermilab, the US Governments equivalent in Chicago.

A Neutrino is a small subatomic particle that has no electric charges unlike electrons so can travel where electrons

Conan Movie TrailerMay 7, 2011, 3:54 pm

It only seemed like a couple of days ago that the first Conan 2011 movie trailer came out and what a poor effort it was. The producers have since back tracked and released a new trailer which I expect you to agree whether you like the film or not is a better trailer than the first.

Partial Solar EclipseDecember 29, 2010, 5:31 pm

On the fourth of January next year (2011), there will be a partial solar eclipse seen in Northern Europe. In London, UK, the sun will be 67-70% covered by the Sun. In Glasgow however only about 38% of the Sun will be covered.

I cannot stress enough that although the Sun will be obscured, you must take protective measures to ensure your sight isn`t damaged by the light.

Visit Exploratorium to see how to View the Sun safely. You can buy special eclipse glasses that will help you. Theye cheap but they come in packs where Ive seen them being sold. All now is fingers crossed that the eclipse is not obscured by cloud.
