It might seem an odd thing to explain on an space / universe site but me try. When Jesus Christ was crucified, it happened around the time of the Jewish Passover. Passover is the Jewish celebration of liberation of Israelites from slavery and Exodus from Egypt. That celebration is held on 15th day of Nisan in the Jewish Calendar. Time And Date
As it was Passover at the time, the Christians decided to celebrate the Resurrection at the same time as Passover. The date of Easter Sunday is calculated by the full moon. Easter Sunday is celebrate on the first Sunday after the first Full Moon after the Spring (Vernal) Equinox.
When it comes to calculating, the Spring Equinox is the 21st of March, not the 20th March which explains why in 2019, Easter weekend is 19th April to 21st April and not 22nd of March to the 24th March.
The earliest possible day for Easter Sunday is March 22nd and the last time that occurred was in 1818 and that won't happen again until 2285 which no one alive today will see. The closest we got to that was in 2008 when Easter Sunday fell on March 23rd.
The latest possible day for Easter Sunday is April 25th, the last time that happened was in 1943 and the next time it will happen is 2038. The closest we got to that day was April 24th in 2011.
There is a small difference between when Easter is celebrated in Western cultures and when it is celebrated in Eastern Orthodox cultures. With Easter Orthodox, the time is usually in April and May rather than March and April. Sometimes they do fall on the same day such as in 2025 and 2028.
