Who is the oldest person to go in space?

The oldest person to venture into space was John Glenn who went into space at the age of 77 in 1998. He didn't just go up to test space travel on the aging body, he was a real and useful member of the team as a payload specialist onboard the Space Shuttle Discovery. It wasn't the first time he had been into space. The first time he'd gone into space was in 1962 as the first American to orbit the Earth.

Dennis Tito is an American businessman who paid the Russians to allow him to go into space and visit the international space station. Dennis Tito was 61 years old at the time of going into space. He spent millions to be able to enter space, something that upset the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (N.A.S.A.) and so the opportunity to buy into space is no longer available to get onto the I.S.S. Before space tourism was stopped, other businessmen paid for the privilege such as Mark Shuttleworth, a South African businessman.

The oldest Russian to travel into space is Valery V. Ryumin who was 58 years old at the time of going into space. He travelled as a part of an international team onboard the Space Shuttle Discovery again. He had a varied career including being a tank commander in the Russian army at one time.

Peggy Whitson of the United States is the oldest woman to go into space at the age of 57 in 2017. Not only does she hold the record for being the oldest female, she also holds the records :-

Jean-Loup Chretien is the oldest European to travel into space at the age of 59 in 1997 on board the Space Shuttle Atlantis. Before being a pilot, he was a member of the French Air Force. The 1997 journey was the third time he'd been in space, the previous times were in 1982 and 1994. He went into space first with the Russians and then twice with the Americans.
