Cassian Andor is a fictional male in the Star Wars film series who was portrayed on screen by Diego Luna. Cassian Andor is an intelligence office for the Rebel Alliance. Cassian is in a way, a James Bond for the Star Wars franchise. Cassian is first seen making contact with someone inside Saw Gerrera's organisation on an asteroid in the Ring of Kafrene. Saw Gerrera is an extremist resistance fighter who is doing more harm than good.
Cassian first encounters Jyn Erso at the Rebel Alliance base on Yavin IV after Jyn had been rescued from being imprisoned by the Galactic Empire. The Leader of the Rebellion, Mon Mothma wants Jyn to help the Rebels get into contact with Saw Gerrera. Saw had looked after Jyn soon after Jyn's parent Galen and Lyra Erso had been captured (Galen) or killed (Lyra).
Along with K-S20, Cassian and Jyn travel to the desert planet of Jedha where they hope they can find Saw. During their time in the planet's capital city, they come across from friends Chirrut and Baze. Chirrut is a blind monk who although isn't a Jedi Knight, he believes in the force and is very handy with his cane, hitting out and disabling Stormtroopers. K-2SO had been ordered back to the ship but he disobeyed the order but after the Stormtroopers, K-S20 returns to the ship whilst the other four are captured and taken before Saw Gerrera.
Jyn is given an audience with Saw Gerrera where she is shown a holographic message from her father that had been smuggled out by Bodhi Rook, the Imperial pilot turned rebel. When Grand Moff Tarkin orders that Jedha City is destroyed to demonstrate the power of the Death Star, Jyn, Cassian, Bodhi and Chirrut escape the planet. Saw Gerrera decides to not go with them, instead he watches the destruction of Jedha City and ultimately his own base.
After escaping from Jedha, the group jump to hyperspace to visit the Imperial Kyber Refinery on Eadu where they locate Galen Erso, the father of Jyn. Galen is the mastermind of the Death Star. When Cassian has the opportunity to assassinate Galen, Cassian doesn't take the sniper shot, instead, Cassian lets things play out. An X-wing strike carries out the assassination that Cassian was unable to do for himself. When he sees Jyn going to her now dead father, Casian goes in to rescue Jyn and get them both out of harms way.
There is a Rebel Alliance meeting where they are to decide their next course of action. Against the wishes of the Rebel Council, Jyn decides that she must get the plans for the Death Star. Jyn knows where they are, the plans are held in a Imperial base on the tropical planet of Scarif on the outer rim. Cassian Andor agrees to go with her along with a group of rebels including Bodhi and Chirrut. The team steal an Imperial cargo ship from their colleagues and fly it to Scarif.
On Scarif, Cassian Andor and Jyn Erso steal a Rebel officers clothing and a black stormtroopers clothing respectively. Cassian, Jyn and K-2SO break into the base whilst the others cause commotion outside to detract the Imperial forces. Unbeknown to them, Director Orson Krennic is also on the planet overseeing operations.
Using their Imperial outfits, they are able to make their way to the data storage area and locate where the data storage banks are. The operation seemed to be going well but then things go wrong. They have to break into the area where the item that they are after is being held. Andor falls to his death leaving Jyn on her own.
When Krennic confronts Jyn, Cassian returns and disables Krennic, allowing Jyn to resume her task and send the plans.
Although it seemed that he was killed after falling to his death, he was only knocked out for a brief moment. He returned to kill Director Krennic. However, he was unable to escape the planet after Grand Moff Tarkin arrived in the Death Star and fired on the planet. The effect of the Death Star weaponry caused the planet surface to be destroyed but not the planet.
Cassian Andor died with Jyn Erso in his arms. Their adventures together weren't as long as those of Han Solo and Princess Leia and so there was no off-spring or chance of a return. It had been reported that both Diego Luna (Cassian Andor) and Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso) had sequels written into their contracts. Considering how their stories came to an end in flames, they won't be back.
