Avengers - Infinity Wars / Endgame

When in order to get the soul stone to complete his infinity gauntlet, Thanos sacrificed Gamora on Vormir. Only by giving a soul could he expect to get the soul stone back. When The Avengers confronted Thanos on Titan, they tried to get the gauntlet off Thanos to prevent the clicking.

When Peter Quill learned of Gamora's death, he kept hitting Thanos that allowed him to free himself from the grip of the Avengers and click his fingers. Peter Quill was one of those who would then disintegrate.

When Gamora was killed on Vormir, it was announced that she would not be coming back. Gamora is brought back to life when Nebula and James Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine travel back to Morag to steal the Infinity Stone before Peter Quill is able to steal it.

After the battle, Peter Quill is pleased to see Gamora but this time frame Gamora doesn't know who he is as she was picked out of a time before they had even met.
