Jabba, the Hutt - Star Wars


Jabba, the Hutt is a fictional male Hutt in the Star Wars film series who was played on screen by Animatronics. Jabba, the Hutt is a famous gangster on the planet of Tatooine. He is nothing more than a slug who wields a lot of power over the planet.

When Han Solo double crosses Jabba the Hutt, Jabba sends bounty hunters to capture Han Solo. The first bounty hunter, Greedo meets an untimely death in a cantina in Mos Eisley. The second bounty hunter Boba Fett enlists the help of Darth Vader to capture Han and freeze him in carbonite for delivery. Jabba cares little about life, when a dancer in his palace becomes boring, he has the dancer killed by the Rancor, a creature in the dungeons under his palace hall. Jabba appears mainly in Star Wars VI - Return of the Jedi.

The Phantom Menace

Jabba the Hutt appears briefly in the film as host of the Pod Race which Anakin Skywalker has entered. Jabba appears with a female Hutt and Bib Fortuna to start the race then he becomes disinterested in the race and leaves.

The Clone Wars

Jabba has a baby son who has been kidnapped by someone. Jabba puts out a reward for the safe return of his son, whoever returns his son, their faction (Separatists or Old Republic) will get to access the Outer Rim trade routes which the Hutts control. Unbeknown to Jabba, Count Dooku as representative of The Separatists is actually behind the kidnapping of his son and is using the son as a trap for the Jedis.

Jabba has an Uncle Ziro who sides with Count Dooku to kidnap Jabba's son and blame The Old Republic in the hope that the Hutt criminal empire will side with the Separatists. Padme Amidala confronts Ziro and manages him to confess all to Jabba in regards to the plot and save Anakin and Ahsoka's lives.

A New Hope

In the original version of the Episode IV, Jabba's scene was cut from the movie. In the special editions, the scene with Jabba is put back in. The original scene had an actor play the role of Jabba, the Hutt, the slug was digitally added in with Han Solo stepping on Jabba's tail as Han walks behind Jabba.

Return of the Jedi

The leading members of The Rebel Alliance attempt to rescue Han Solo. The first attempt is by Lando Calrissian who has got a job as a flunky of Jabba, the Hutt. He doesn't attempt anything until Han Solo and Chewbacca are to be thrown into the Sarlacc Pit and eaten.

The second attempt is by Princess Leia who turns up with Chewbacca to collect the bounty on Chewbacca. Leia manages to get the bounty off off Jabba, the Hutt then mingles in the crowd. Princess Leia attempts a rescue and manages to free Han Solo from his frozen cell but Jabba, the Hutt was watching and captures her. Jabba strips Princess Leia of her clothes and makes her wear a metal bikini. Jabba uses Princess Leia as a pet on a leash.

Luke Skywalker had sent the droids as a swap for Han Solo but doesn't want them. Luke turns up by himself and threatens Jabba but Jabba laughs and tries to have Luke Skywalker eat by the Rancor.

With Han Solo defrosted and also with Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca in his cells, he orders that the three be thrown into the Sarlacc Pit. The Sarlacc Pit is a huge in the sand mouth.

Luke gives Jabba the Hutt one last chance at living then launches into an attack using his Light Sabre which R2-D2 had possession of. Jabba, the Hutt is killed by Princess Leia strangely him with the chains.

Solo, a Star Wars Anthology

Jabba is implied in the Solo film but doesn't appear. Han Solo does some work for a different gangster, Dryden Vos who works for the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate. Tobias Beckett, mentor to the young Han Solo talks of a gangster who is looking for a group to do some trafficking for him but we don't get that far yet.
