Kai Winn is a fictional Bajoran in the Star Trek - Deep Space Nine television series who was played on screen by Louise Fletcher. Vedek Winn is crowned Kai Winn after the death of Opaka Kai in "Battle Lines". Kai is killed when she visits a planet and gets re-animated by microbes. She is unable to leave the planet due to the renimation.
There is an election to become the new Kai which she does anything she can including undermining the others including Vedek Bareil. She wins in the end.
Vedek Winn believes she speaks on behalf of the Prophets. She is highly religious and will do anything to get into and keep power for herself, corrupting her religon along the way.
During The Dominion War, she becomes close to a Bajoran farmer calling himself Anjohl Tennan. However, Winn later discovers that Anjohl is actually star Trek - Deep Space Nine">Gul Dukat in disguise. By the time she has discovered the truth, she has already slept with him.
Although revulsed at the fact that Anjohl is Dukat, she continues to work him, studying the text of the Pah-Wraiths. Together, they visit the fire caverns to summon the Pah-Wraiths.
Winn tricks Dukat into drinking poison which kills him but the Pah-Wraiths bring Gul Dukat back, as a Cardassian. It takes Captain Benjamin Sisko to sacrifice himself by pushing Gul Dukat into the flames. Sadly for Winn, she also is consumed by the fires of the Pah Wraiths.
Vedek Winn visits the Deep Space 9 station where she witnesses a secular lesson by Keiko O'Brien, wife of the Chief Engineer, Chief Miles O'Brient. Aghast at what she hears during the lesson, she leads a "rebellion" against the teachings of Keiko O'Brien.
Kira Nerys is supportive of the actions by Vedek Winn and believes that the religious teachings are more important that fact or secular ones which should not be done. Keiko stands her ground on the matter leading to a confrontation and a clash of style.
