Luke Skywalker is a fictional male Tatooinian in the Star Wars series. The character was portrayed on screen by Mark Hamill. His allegiance / loyalty is to The Rebel Alliance. Luke Skywalker is the lead character in the original star Wars series of films. His is the son of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala. At birth, his is separated from his twin, Princess Leia. Whilst Leia was brought up by Bail Organa, a senator from the planet of Alderaan, Luke lived with his relatives on the desert planet of Tatooine. Luke longed to join the Imperial Academy that his friends were signing up for but his Uncle wouldn't let him join because his uncle needed Luke for the harvest. Uncle Owen said Luke would be allowed to go the following year. Luke was hidden away on Tatooine from Emperor Palpatine who Obi-Wan, Yoda and Bail Organa thought could turn Luke to the dark side of the force.
Luke Skywalker gets involved with the Rebellion when his uncle buys two droids (R2-D2 and C-3PO) from a group of nomadic Jawas. R2-D2 keeps presenting Luke with a hologram of a young woman asking Obi-Wan Kenobi for help as he's their last hope. Reluctantly, Luke removes the restrainer belt on R2-D2 which had been preventing R2-D2 from escaping. When R2-D2 makes an escape, Luke goes off in search of the wayward R2 unit. When Luke catches up with the droid, Luke is attacked by Tuskan Raider also known as the Sandpeople. Luke is saved by Obi-Wan Kenobi who scares off the Raiders. Luke is taken back to Ben's house where R2-D2 finally shows the full video of the woman. Obi-Wan agrees to take the droids to Alderaan which Luke decides to go along with as he has nothing left on this planet, his aunt and uncle have both been killed.
Luke travels to Mos Eisley spaceport which is described as being where you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. There Luke and Obi-Wan hire Han Solo to them and the two droids (C-3PO and R2-D2) to Alderaan which whilst in flight, the planet is blown up by the Death Star, the headquarters of the Galactic Empire. The craft that they had hired, the Millennium Falcon is captured by a tractor beam from the Death Star and brought inside the Death Star. When R2-D2 finds out that Princess Leia is onboard the space station, Luke Skywalker persuades Han Solo to attempt a rescue mission, Han and Luke use Stormtrooper disguises to hide and find the Princess and escape from the Death Star. Luke witnesses the death of Obi-Wan and starts a fight with the stormtroopers, Luke is reluctant to leave until he hears a voice telling him to go. Luke takes part in the attack of the Death Star in an X-wing fighter, launching the all important missile which finally blows up the Death Star.
Luke Skywalker is hiding on the planet Hoth with the rest of the Rebellion. During a scout mission on the planet, he is attacked by a Wampa but manages to escape but collapses in the snow. Just before Luke passes out, Luke sees a vision from Obi-Wan who tells LUke to visit Dagobah where the great Yoda lives for training to become a Jedi Knight. Han Solo discovers the lifeless body of Luke and makes a makeshift hideout for the injuried friend. In the morning, a battalion of Snow Speeders find Luke and Han and take them back to the secret base. During his recouperation, Leia kisses Luke, whom they are both unaware they are brother and sister to make Han jealous.
When the Empires vehicles, the AT-AT Walkers are spotted, Luke takes the fight to the walkers in a snow speeder. During the fight, his snow speeder is brought down and he is forced to fight on foot. This doesn't prevent him from despatching an AT-AT Walker on his own. When it is Luke's turn to leave the planet, he obeys Obi-Wan and visits the swamp planet of Dagobah. On the planet he meets Yoda who initially refuses to acknowledge he is Yoda until Obi-Wans voice is heard and Yoda is persuaded to begin Luke's training. During the training, Luke confronts Darth Vader and sees a vision of his friends in danger, against Yoda's wishes, Luke leaves and heads to Bespin in the hope he can save his friends.
In cloud City, Bespin, Luke arrives but is unable to prevent his friend Han Solo being taken away by Boba Fett to Jabba the Hutt. The whole plan of capturing Han Solo and handing him over to Jabba was to lure Luke Skywalker to the planet. On the planet, Luke Skywalker confronts Darth Vader where during the fight, Luke looses his hand and discovers the truth that he (Luke) is Darth Vaders' son. Luke falls through the centre of the city and through a chute before finally residing on a "ledge". Luke calls out to Leia who order Lando Calrissian who is piloting the Falcon to return for Luke. The crew of the Millennium find Luke and take him to where the rest of the Rebellion are hiding.
Luke visits Tatooine to help Lando rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt by bargaining Han Solo for the droids (R2-D2 and C-3PO). Jabba doesn't accept the offer and keeps the droids and tries to have Luke killed by being fed to the Rancor but Luke survives. Luke, Han Solo and Chewbacca are taken out to the desert and Jabba orders them to be fed to the Sarlacc Pit. Luke launches into an escape bid using his lightsaber which had been hidden inside R2-D2 to deploy when the time came to make his escape. After the rebels escape from Tatooine having rescued Han Solo, Luke visits Dagobah one last time to visit Yoda. He is told he must face Vader but is not a Jedi yet.
Luke returns to the Rebels space fleet and agrees to join the team tasked with blowing up the shield generator on the Moon of Endor. On the planet, after an initial fight with some lone Imperial Scouts and being captured by Ewoks, he hands himself into the Empire. He is brought before the Emperor and is enticed to fight Vader eventually giving into the tempts and fights his father. When Luke declines to kill his father, the Emperor tries to kill him with electricity like power but Darth Vader intervenes and kills the Emperor. Luke flees the Death Star with his fathers body and cremates his father Anakin Skywalker on the moon of Endor.
Luke Skywalker has gone missing, he feels responsible for Ben Solo turning into Kylo Ren and has disappeared. No one has seen him for years. It was said that Luke went off in search of an ancient Jedi Temple where the Jedi was once founded and are strong. According to expanded universe, the Force was founded on a remote planet called Tython so could this planet he be found on Tython? There are clues but there are no pointers to say where exactly Luke is. Not only is the Rebel Alliance after him to bring him back into the fold but also the First Order are out to kill him. Luke's lightsaber is found in a locked box in Maz Kanata's Catina on Takodama which when Rey touches it gives her strong memories and projection of what the future holds. There are a few speculations that Luke is Rey's father given the force is strong with both of these.
Luke is found on an Island in the middle of a large ocean on an unknown planet and it is Rey who visits him but there is no action, no words, no nothing between them as the film then finishes. Its speculative that Luke comes back to Princess Leia and the rest so that he can train Rey in the use of the force.
The events of the Last Jedi take place immediately after the previous film albeit with a scene inserted just before Rey meets Luke Skywalker. The scene in question is the First Order attacking the Resistance on D'Qar. The last scene of the last film had Rey giving Luke his lightsaber. After Luke looks at it, he throws it away in a comical scene. Luke doesn't want to train Rey, Luke wants the Jedis to end.
Luke sees the Jedis as narcisstic and only looking after there own. The Jedi were around in great numbers when Palpatine was able to rise from a lowly senator to Vice Chancellor and finally to Emperor Palpatine and the Jedis didn't see it. After perseverence, Rey finally gets Luke to train her.
During a training session, Rey starts looking at the light side of the force, the Jedi side but when Rey starts to veer towards the dark side, Luke gets scared and stops training.
Rey would later find out about the truth of how Kylo Ren came to be. Luke had taken it upon himself to train Ben Solo, the son of Princess Leia and Han Solo. When Ben started to scare Luke, turning to the dark side, Luke tried to kill Ben Solo in his sleep. Ben woke up and destroyed the Jedi training temple and went full side to the Dark Side and worked with Supreme Leader Snoke.
After Rey has learnt the truth about what happened to Kylo Ren, Rey leaves Luke to confront Ben and hopefully bring him back to the side of the Jedis and the good.
Luke is visited by his old master Yoda on the Island in ghost form when Luke decides that he must destroy the Jedi tree and text. When Luke is unable to bring himself to destroying the tree containing the original Jedi text from thousands of years ago, Yoda destroys the tree.
Kylo taunts Luke to come and confront him. On Crait, the mineral planet, Luke turns up to face Kylo. Kylo launches a massive barrage of missiles at Luke but does no good. Luke is actually a hologram, beamed in from Ahch-To. Kylo Ren fights Luke before discovering it is a hologram by which time the Rey has managed to ferry the resistance away from the planet.
Luke disappears, leaving only his cloak behind. He'll probably be back as a force ghost, no reason why not.
