Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a fictional male Tatooinian warrior in the Star Wars series. The character was portrayed on screen by Ewan McGregor, Sir Alec Guiness. His allegiance / loyalty is to The Rebel Alliance. Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the main protagonists in the prequels along with Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala. Obi-Wan Kenobi is a skilled Jedi Warrior, one of the last. He played a pivotal role in the prequels but only appeared as a main character in the first film, Episode IV, A New Hope. Obi-Wan Kenobi was played on screen in the originals by veteran British actor, Sir Alec Guiness who hated being associated with the film. In the prequels, Obi-Wan was played Ewan MacGregor who loved the role and is hoping there might well be an Obi-Wan Kenobi solo-film when they get round to his character.

Finding Anakin Skywalker

Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn are tasked with investigating the trade dispute between the Trade Federation and the rulers of the planetNaboo. Once on the planet, they make for the Palace of Theed where Padme Amidala holds court. Along the way, they are joined by a Gungan called Jar Jar Binks who just happens to be the most irritating character in the universe.

They manage to escape from Naboo with the Queen but have to detour to Tatooine when their craft needs a new part. On Tatooine, Obi-Wan meets Anakin Skywalker and manages to persuade his mother Shmi Skywalker to allow the Jedis to take Anakin with them so that he can be a Jedi Knight.

Once they arrive on Coruscant, Obi-Wan manages to persuade the Jedi Council to allow them to train Anakin which after deliberation, the council agrees.

The council will not get involved in the problems on Naboo so he returns with Qui-gon, Anakin, Jar-Jar, Padme and Captain Panaka to deal with the threat. On the planet, Anakin and Qui-gon must confront Darth Maul who had been tracking their every move since Tatooine. Qui-gon is killed but Anakin survives and kills Maul.

Back on Coruscant, Obi-Wan agrees to train Anakin to become a warrior. It is the only time that Obi-Wan is seen without a beard, from then on, he sports a beard.

Hunting the Assassin and Paymaster

Anakin has now grown into a young man and Obi-Wan now has a beard. The two jedi-knights are assigned to protect Padme Amidala who is being targeted. Even though Anakin has aged, Padme hasn't. After an attempt on Padme whilst she was sleeping, Anakin and Obi-Wan capture the assassin Zam Wessel who herself is the target of an assassination bid to silence her.

Obi-Wan finds a dart which leads him to a planet called Kamino where the inhabitants are master cloners. The problem is that the planet has been erased from the council libraries so he must take a guess and go where he believes the planet to be,

Obi-Wan finds the planet and discovers that the Kiminons were expecting a visit because of the order for a large clone army. Obi-Wan questions the source for the clones, Jango Fett. However after an initial questioning, he goes back to ask Jango more questions as Jango is leaving, the two men fight outside on the landing strip.

Obi-Wan carries on with the investigation which leads him to Geonosis where the Separatist leadership have gathered to plan their offensive. Obi-Wan gets support from Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala before the full Jedi attack force including the new Republic Clone Army.

Obi-Wan is captured by Count Dooku who tells the younger Jedi knight about the Sith Lord at the centre of the Council. Count Dooku manages to escape from the Jedi's after a three way fight against Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Revenge of the Sith

With Anakins help, Obi-Wan manages to get onto General Grievous's command ship and rescue Palpatine. The two Jedi Knights once again confront Count Dooku and fight him to the death. DUring the fight, Obi-Wan is knocked unconscious and is unaware the Anakin has killed Count Dooku.

After the fight, Obi-Wan is sent to Utapau where he must track down and kill Grievous. During the confrontation to kill Grevious, Obi-Wan uses a gun for the first and only time in the movies.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Confronting Anakin Skywalker on Mustafar

Obi-Wan confronts Anakin on the planet of Mustafar and the two duel above the lava flowing rivers. Obi-Wan ends up chopping off Anakins legs and arm, leaving him to die.

Anakin seeks solace in an asteroid where he meets up with other members of the Old Republic such as Bail Organa and Yoda.

Obi-Wan volunteers to go to Tatooine so that he can monitor and watch Luke Skywalker as he grows up.

A New Hope

Obi-Wan first makes an appearance when Luke has been attacked by Tuskan Raider warriors as Luke had gone out to find his missing R2-D2. In R2-D2 was a message for Ben Kenobi, in it, the woman in the video (Princess Leia) asks for Ben's help like he did in the past. Ben agrees and takes Luke, C-3PO and R2-D2 to Mos Eisley to hire a pilot to get them to Alderaan.

The pilot that Obi-Wan hires is Han Solo and his co-pilot Chewbacca.

En route to the planet, Obi-Wan gets a feeling as though six billion lives were snuffed out in a matter of seconds. They discover the planet has been destroyed and all that's left is an asteroid field and a giant moon which turns out to be the Death Star.

Once inside the Death Star, Obi-Wan goes off on his own to disable the tractor beam so that they can escape once the others have rescued the Princess.

Once they have got the princess, Obi-Wan confronts his old apprentice who is now Darth Vader and allows his apprentice to kill him. Obi-Wan now becomes a ghost advising Luke to escape and how to destroy the Death Star.

The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi

In the last originals films, Obi-Wan appears as a ghost to advise Luke on Hoth and to go visit Yoda on Dagobah. At the end of Return of the Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi appears alongside ghosts of Anakin Skywalker and Yoda. In the original release, Anakin character was played by Sebastian Shaw but for the updated films, Sebastian was replaced with Hayden Christiansen who played Anakin in the prequels.

Ghosts of Obi-Wan Kenobi

Episodes VII and Onwards

It is unlikely that Obi-Wan will return even as a force ghost, the original actor who played Obi-Wan has past away but the actor who played in the original is still very much alive and so could play him. Obi-Wans voice is heard when Rey picks up a lightsaber that belongs to Luke Skywalker. Ewan McGregor did the voice over for the character in the Force Awakens. There might one day be an Obi-Wan Kenobi trilogy but at the moment, the only film trilogies being made are the sequel to the originals and the Han Solo trilogy.
