Samwise Gamgee is a fictional male Hobbit in the Lord of the Rings film series who was portrayed on screen by Sean Astin. Samwise Gamgee is a Hobbit male character from Lord of the Rings who is more commonly referred to as just Sam. He is aligned to the Fellowship. His primary role within the series is to help Frodo to get the ring into Doom Mountain. Sam is the first member of The Fellowship of the Ring when he is caught by Gandalf listening in on his conversation. Sam was gardening in Frodos' garden when he was caught by Gandalf listening in and enrolled on the mission.
When Frodo breaks up the fellowship at the end of the first one, it is Sam who leaves and sticks by his friends side throughout the rest of the journey to Mordor. When the pair meet Gollum who then tries to drive a wedge between the two friends, Sam refuses to turn away from his friend. Gollum frames Samwise for eating the supplies. At Cirith Ungol Sam offers to carry the ring for a bit but Frodo rebukes his friend and sends him away, something that didn't happen in the book.
When Frodo is captured by a spider and Orcs, it is Sam who comes to Frodo's help with his sword and a light stick as he frees his friend and kills the spider. The Spider that Sam rescued Frodo from is known as Shelob and that the area that is occurred in was known as Torech Ungol or Shelob's Lair. Sam remarks when he reaches the scarecrow that another step and it will be furthest that he'll ever have taken from the Shire.
When Frodo takes a raft to speed on his way, he hope that Sam will get the hint and give up. Frodo knows that Sam can't swim but that doesn't stop Sam as tries to swim after his friend. Knowing that Sam will almost certainly drown, Frodo rescues his friend from drowning.
Sam wants to get back to Shire as he longs for Rosie Cotton after the mission has been a complete success.
