Steppenwolf - Justice League

Steppenwolf from Justice League played by Ciaran Hinds.

Steppenwolf is a fictional male New God in the Justice League comic series who was played on screen by Ciaran Hinds. Steppenwolf is a commander from the planet Apokalips, a hellish red-skied planet ruled by the dictator Darkseid.

Steppenwolf attempted to gain control of Earth many years ago but was defeated by the combined efforts of Man, Atlanteans and Amazons. In addition to those from Earth, the Green Lantern Corps also helped push him back.

Steppenwolf was after Mother Cubes when activated together would turn Earth into Apokalips. After Steppenwolf was defeated the first time, the cubes were separated, each one given to one of the tribes. The tribe of humans secretly buried theirs so no one would ever be able to use the power. The other two cubes were securely held.

The Mother Cube that was entrusted to humans was found by scientists. One scientist, Silas Stone used the Mother Cube to save the life of his son, Victor Stone and turn him into Cyborg, part human, part machine member of the Justice League.

Steppenwolf attacked a second time managing to pick up each of the cubes and then attempt to merge them in Russia. Steppenwolf's actions didn't go unnoticed and the Justice League without Clark Kent a.k.a Superman got into action to defeat Steppenwolf. Superman had just been brought back to life and wasn't ready to face Steppenwolf straight away but he did join the fight eventually.

Steppenwolf is not alone, he has an army of Parademons to help and assist him. For most of the time, he is able to fight his enemies without the Parademons but there are times when they come in handy.

Only by destroying the axe will Steppenwolf be defeated and it takes the combined efforts of Superman and Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman to eventually destroy it. Superman freezes the axe and Wonder Woman smashes frozen axe head with her sword. The parademons that Steppenwolf had control of are no longer under his control and attack Steppenwolf, forcing him to retreat. Steppenwolf opened a portal back to Apokalips to retreat, leaving his helmet behind.

In cut scenes of Batman Vs. Superman : Dawn of Justice, there is a preview of Steppenwolf inside the crashed Kryptonian craft. The scene was cut so that Steppenwolf could become the main antagonist in the follow up.
