Thranduil is a fictional male in the Lord of the Rings film series who was played on screen by Lee Pace. King Thranduil is the leader of the Elves in Elven Kingdom of Mirkwood. Thranduil doesn't appear in the Lord of the Rings but does appear frequently in the Hobbit storyline. Thandruil is the father of Legolas Greenleaf, the skilled Elven Archer who assists in The Fellowship of the Rings.
Thranduil's father is Oropher and grandfather of Legolas. Oropher was the Sindarin King of the Silvan Elves of Greenwood the Great during the Second Age. Oropher abandoned Dol Guldur because of territory disputes with Lorien and Moria.
