Doctor Gaius Baltar is told by the Cylon clones that they are looking for Earth as well as the humans. The Cylons tell Batar that they have sent a Cylon Basestar to the Lion nebula which contains a blinking star, another name for a pulsar to investigate the research that Baltar has carried out to find Earth.

When the Basestar sent to the Lion Nebula begins to degrade and it is reported that the Cylons are dying from a disease. The Cylons turn on Baltar accusing him of sending them to die. The Cylons on the Basestar are infected by a virus that could if it got into a Resurrection Ship could wipe out the entire Cylon population. Baltar persuades the Cylons to let him go to the Basestar and investigate. The Cylons allow him in a Colonial Raptor to visit the Basestar to carry out an investigation.

On board the Basestar, Baltar sees Cylons dying and takes samples from a brunette Number Six. He discovers that the Basestar picked up a beacon which is the likely source of the virus. When Baltar returns to the basestar he was being held prisoner, he neglects to tell them about the beacon but a Number Six clone discovers the beacon in pictures.

A Raptor containing Athena discovers the Basestar and how non-reactive the crew of the craft is. Athena calls it in.
