Blade Runner is a science fiction prediction of the Future on Earth which was released in 1982 and is directed by Ridley Scott.
The film is based on the book 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep'. It is set in the future, the original book set the date as being 1992 but this was changed to 2021 in revised editions. It is set in Los Angeles. The main character is Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter who feels distant from his wife. He owns a pet sheep where owning a pet is a status symbol.
He is tasked with hunting down rogue Nexus-6 robots that have been used off-world and have made it to Earth. The robots look identical in every way to humans, the only difference is that the robots do not feel emotion. In the book, there is a second storyline of John Isidore who befriends the replicants. He is one of many people who cannot leave the planet due in part to his intelligence.
During his investigations, he meets with a human called Rachael who he later discovers is a replicant but she doesn't know. Rachael had been implanted with memories of a niece of one of the people who made her. Feeling low with the state of his marriage, he has sex with Rachael. In the final face-off between Rick and Roy Batty, the former's life is saved by the replicant.
There are a number of sequel books but nothing have been made into a film.
