Moonraker is a Spy film with a space connection which was released in 1979 and is directed by Lewis Gilbert. The film's theme tune is 'Moonraker' and was sung by Shirley Bassey.
The film came shortly after the world was introduced to the Star Wars franchise and film studios were rushing out space films, 007 decided to get in on the act. The original book story had James Bond up against Hugo Drax whose Moonraker was a nuclear missile and not a space shuttle.
A Moonraker space shuttle has been stolen and its up to James Bond to investigate. His mission will take him to the water city of Venice in northern Italy and to the Amazon.
Along the way he will meet his metal toothed enemy Jaws once more whilst assisted by space pilot Dr Holly Goodhead. It is the only time that Bond visits outer space, the other film connections have been through satellite weaponry. At the end of the film, Jaws changes sides because of his love for Dolly and because of what plans Hugo Drax might have for Jaws. James Bond persuades Jaws to believe that after everyone on Earth is dead, Jaws will be killed because he's imperfect.
Hugo Drax is a multi-billionaire architect of Moonraker project who wants to kills all humans on the planet and start again with a master race. He does this by killing off everyone on the planet using a virus that targets humans only. Whilst he's waiting for the virus to kill everyone, he has holed up in a space station that is undetected from Earth.
