Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is science fiction film set in outer space which was released in 2017 and is directed by Luc Besson.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand planets is based on a graphic novel which if you're interested can be found in all good book ships offline and online. The film is actually based on volume 2. The first one is centred around time-travel but this one is based in outer space. Valerian is a secret agent of sorts, a James Bond for space. Unlike James Bond, women aren't disposable. Valerian is partnered with Laureline, a human female.
The film is directed by Luc Besson whose previous works include the futuristic film 'The Fifth Element' starring Bruce Willis about a taxi driver trying to prevent aliens getting their hands on the fifth element, a female.
However, this film has Valerian sent by his commanding officer to the city of Alpha. Alpha is the central city of a thousand worlds which has over seventeen million inhabitants and loads of different alien life-forms from across the galaxy. Something is going on and Valerian is determined to find out.
If the films a success then it'll probably have sequels, after all the book is the second in the three volumes so far written. The second book is able to showcase the special effects whereas the first one would be a time-travelling adventure so not much special effects are needed.
