Blasted Lands

Blasted Lands Zone in World of Warcraft, copyright Blizard Ent.

Blasted Lands is a zone on the continent of Eastern Kingdoms in the World of Warcraft game. The zone has a wasteland environmental feel to it. . Blasted Lands has quests for players leveled 45-55. The area is not controlled by either faction and has quests for both factions. There are no dungeons or raids located in this zone.

The centrepiece of the zone is the Dark Portal that is situated near the middle of the zone. The area used to be swampland as testified by the The Black Morass - Opening the Dark Portal dungeon where you as a member of a group have to protect Medivh as he opens the Dark Portal. To the south west is a small patch of greenery that is populated with Worgens allied to the Alliance.

If the Infinite Dragons manage to travel back in time and prevent Medivh opening the Dark Portal will create a Paradox and will change time and history. In later expansions, it is where Garosh Hellscream travels through the portal to travel back in time to empower the Orcs and prevent them from making the mistakes that resulted in stalemate between the Horde and the Alliance.

The Horde have a base of operations in the north western section of the zone where they are able to fly to and operate out of. The base is nothing compared to the Nethergarde Keep base that the Alliance have in the north eastern part. The nearest city to the zone is Stormwind hence the strong alliance presence in the zone.

Lord Kazzak, the mighty world boss would appear in this zone in the original vanilla expansion of the game. Alliance would tank the boss all the way to Stormwind for fun before killing it. Lord Kazzak returned briefly as part of Warcraft celebrations but then went away. When the portal was opened for Outlands, they removed Kazzak and sent him to Outlands but he wasn't fightable.
