Durotar

Durotar Zone in World of Warcraft, copyright Blizard Ent.

Durotar is a zone on the continent of Kalimdor in the World of Warcraft game. The zone has a desert environmental feel to it. . Durotar has quests for players leveled 1-14. There is a major city in this zone called Orgrimmar. The area is controlled by the Horde and should be avoided by the Alliance. There are no dungeons or raids located in this zone.

Durotar is named after Durotan, an old, long dead leader of The Horde. In the Warcraft movie, Durotan tries to lead his race to peace but he falls foul of Gul'dan, the fel obsessed Orc wizard. When the Horde left the Dark Portal area, they came to Durotar to make it their new home.

At the very top of the zone is Orgrimmar, the home city of the Horde and more importantly, the Orcs. The starting area for Orcs is in the southern area, Valley of Trials.

There are a few Stormwind encampments but they are purely for the Horde to do quests and slay the humans. There are no alliance bases or flight points here.

Running straight down the middle is a large canyon which for the uninitiated can prove tricky.

For any alliance players who are trying to attack the city, you should be aware that the resurrection point is a long way from the city and a long ghostly walk is required to get back to your body.

Trolls and the Lost Isles

To the south east is the Lost Isles, an area that is different to the rest of the zone. Lost Isles is a completely jungle like place rather than rocky martian desert of the rest of the place. This is the start location for all Trolls in Warcraft. The Darkspear Trolls used to live in Zul'Gurub in Stranglethorn Vale but were forced out of their location by followers of Hakkar but they wish to return one day.
