Icecrown

Icecrown Zone in World of Warcraft, copyright Blizard Ent.

Icecrown is a zone on the continent of Northrend in the World of Warcraft game. The zone has a snow wasteland environmental feel to it. . Icecrown has quests for players leveled 77-80. The area is not controlled by either faction and has quests for both factions. There are 6 dungeons and raids located in this zone.

Icecrown is the final zone of the World of Warcraft - Wrath of the Lich King expansion which will see the factions face off against Arthas Pendragon, better known as the Lich King.

Its environment is waste and rocks rather than snow that you find in Dragonblight for example. There are a couple of raids and four dungeons that are meant to help to get undergeared characters geared up and ready for the raids.

Trial of the Crusader Raid

The raid is located in the north eastern part of the zone where it is still snow. Both factions are based around an arena which contains a raid and a zone, entering the wrong instance door could prove fatal if you don't do it right. The dungeon entrance is on the north side of the arena with the raid's entrance on the east side.

The story behind the raid is that the factions have set up camp to prepare for the final battle with the Lich King. After completing what you think is the raid, Arthas will appear and tell you you need to complete one more encounter and he'll destroy the flooring. The final boss is a Nerubian spider, one whose name you will be familiar with but the tactics will have changed.

Icecrown Citadel

Although it was touted as being the last raid in the expansion which it wasn't, it is the final raid in the Lich King storyline. You enter the raid and make your way to the top of the Citadel and kill Arthas. The raid usually comes top of a lot of polls as to which is the best raid in the game. Doing this raid will award you Argent Crusade rep. Killing trash will award reputation and allow you to gain a better Argent Crusade ring.

At the same time as the raid opened so did a few new dungeons, these dungeons are to help with gaining the necessary gear to allow you to enter the raid. There are three new dungeons here and they are all different, they are not different sections of the same area. Once sees you face off against the Lich King but you are unable to kill him even if you are very high levelled.

Shadow Vault

The Shadow Vault in the most north westerly area is a phased zone. When you first enter the zone, the area is controlled by the Lich King, through a series of quests, you take control of the area. Amongst one of the quest requirements is to destroy the Eye of Arthas. The Eye of Arthas is heavily influenced by the Eye of Sauron from the Lord of the Rings franchise. Arthas uses the eye to watch down on the zone, destroying the eye will blind him.

North of Icecrown

There are a few islands to the north of the zone, all these are are daily quest zones but don't figure in the storyline. In the waters north of the zone are Hammerhead sharks which exist in the real world.
