Naboo - Star Wars

Naboo from Star Wars.

Naboo is a lush green and blue planet that plays a pivotal role in the first three episodes, the prequels. The man who will eventually become the feared Emperor is a Senator from Naboo. Senator Palpatine's rise to power is kicked off by tricking the Trade Federation into blockading the planet thus starting a chain of events that will lead to his eventual control of the galaxy. Queen Padme Amidala from Naboo leads the rebellion to free Naboo from the trade federation. Naboo is also home to the Gungans, a bipedal race of humanoids of which one is Jar-Jar Binks, the most irritating character in any universe. The Gungans and the humans lead separate lives, only coming together to fight the invasion when Padme Amidala makes a personal plea to Boss Nass, the leader of the Gungans.

The Gungans capital is an underwater city ruled by Boss Nass. When the invasion occurs, the Gungans leave their city and go to a secret location above the water. Without Jar-Jar's help, the Jedis would have been unable to find the location.

The underweater wildlife consists of large and even larger. When the submarine that is carrying Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jar-Jar Binks is attacked by a sea monster, that sea monster falls prey to an even larger sea monster enabling the Submarine to escape with the heroes.

After there was an assassination attempt on Padme Amidal by the changling Zam Wessel, Padme Amidala and Anakin Skywalker return to Naboo as travellers in order to hide amongst the people. Padme takes Anakin into the countryside where they become romantically close to one another. Anakin tries impressing Padme by riding a giant tick like creature called a Shaak.

Locations of the Naboo

City of Theed

The Capital city of Naboo is called Theed which is where Queen/Senator Padme Amidala rules over her people. Padme Amidala is an adolescent when she becomes ruler of her people. She is supposed to be in her early teens but the actress playing her isn't.

The scene where Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn meet Jar-Jar Binks for the first time was filmed at Whippendell Woods, North West of Watford, just inside of the M25 Orbital.

Theed Royal Palace which appeared in Star Wars I - The Phantom Menace and Star Wars - The Clone Wars was filmed at Plaza de Espana, Seville in Spain.

Where Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala got married at the end of the Clone Wars is an actual place in Italy, Villa del Balbianello, Lenno to be more precise. In real-life, it is used as a wedding place. 1

Wildlife on Naboo

The predominant animal life form is humans such as Padme Amidala. However, the humans share their planet with the large floppy-eared humanoid species known as the Gungans.

The most well known of the Gungans is Jar-Jar Binks who because of his mannerisms and stupidity has becomes the most hated character in the Star Wars films.

On the surface are the Shaak giant tick-like creatures that roam the countryside, they are vegetarians. Whilst Anakin is picnicing with Padme Amidala, Anakin decides to show off and ride one of the creatures before falling off.

Naboo Sea Life

Under the water, there is a large selection of sealife creatures. After Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi have visited Gungan City, they borrow a Gungan cruiser to return to Theed, during their journey, they are followed by a variety of sea creatures, each larger than the previous one.
