Adrastea, Moon of Jupiter

Adrastea is a Moon that orbits round the planet Jupiter. It is also know by other designations, JXV, S/1979 J1. Its mass is estimated/calculated at being 7,493,342,165,485,970 kg. Its density has been calculated at being 3. Its volume is 2310.

It was discovered in the year 1979 by D. Jewitt, E. Danielson, Voyager 2.

The orbital period, i.e. the period it takes to complete an orbit round Jupiter is 0.29826 days. The figure is also known as the sidereel period. The figure comes from N.A.S.A..

The Equatorial Radius of the object is 8km. The value is the radius in km of the said object at the Equator.

The Escape Velocity of the object is 40 km/h. The Escape Velocity is the speed an object needs to be travelling in order to break free from the objects gravity. The larger an object is, the more velocity (speed) is needed to break free from the object. The Semi-Major Axis of the orbit is 129, which is the furthest point from the centre to the edge of an elliptical point.

The equatorial circumference of Adrastea is 51.5 km. The surface area of Adrastea is 844.96. The surface gravity of the said item is 0.007. The Mean orbit velocity, that is the speed at which it orbits is 113329.20 km/h. The is the average distance in km of the object is from its parent 129000.00.

The orbital inclination, the angle at which Adrastea orbits in relation to the orbital plane is 0.03 degrees. The orbital eccentricity is 0.0018, it is the degree at which Adrastea orbits close to a circular (0) orbit as opposed to an elliptical (1) orbit.

Adrastea is the smallest of the four inner Jovian moons. The others being Metis, Amalthea and Thebe. All four moons are not big enough to be spherical shaped, instead being irregular shaped. the moon was discovered by the Voyager Probe team.

Adrastea Mythology Legend

Adrastea is a nymph from Greek mythology who had been asked by Rhea, mother of Zeus to look after Zeus. Adrastea had been tasked because if Cronus, Zeus's father had found him, Cronus would eat his son to maintain his rule.

Inner Jupiter Moon Moon Group

The Jupiter Inner Moon Group are a small group of four moons that orbit close to the planet. The biggest of the group is Amalthea which the group is usually named after. The closest is Metis.
