Cordelia, Moon of Uranus

Cordelia is a Moon that orbits round the planet Uranus. It is also know by other designations, UVI, S/1986 U7. Its mass is estimated/calculated at being 44,960,052,992,915,800 kg. Its density has been calculated at being 1.3. Its volume is 34015.

Cordelia was discovered on 20 January 1986 by Voyager Science Team.

The orbital period, i.e. the period it takes to complete an orbit round Uranus is 0.33503 days. The figure is also known as the sidereel period. The figure comes from N.A.S.A..

Cordelia is a moon that orbits Uranus. It was only discovered when Voyager 2 space probe flew by in 1986. Before the fly by, it was unknown and hadn't been seen before. As you can see from the image (Copyright N.A.S.A), the moon is nestled between the rings that encircle Uranus. Not much is known about the moon.

Cordelia Legend Mythology

Unlike other planets in , Uranus's satellite moons are not named after ancient gods but after characters from predominantly Shakespearean plays. The first moons of Uranus were named before the formation of the International Astronomical Union was formed. The International Astronomical Union is the international organisation that overseas the naming of all things to do with space.

Cordelia is the daugther of King Lear in the play of the same name by William Shakespeare. Other Uranian moons include Puck and Ariel. In addition to Shakespeare, some moons are named after characters from "Rape of the Lock", a poem by Alexander Pope. When they refer to Rape, its not the criminal sense of the word that we associate it with nowadays but it means in the context of the play, to snatch, to grab, to carry off.
