Hyperion, Moon of Saturn

Hyperion is a Moon that orbits round the planet Saturn. Its orbit circumference, the total distance it travels round its planetary parent is 9,429,377.34 km. The furthest it gets from its orbital parent (apoasis) is 1,535,756 km. Its mass is estimated/calculated at being 5,585,537,250,153,240,000 kg. Its density has been calculated at being 0.544 g/cm3. Its volume is 10,305,995 km3.

It was discovered in the year 1848 by W. & G. Bond, W. Lassell.

The orbital period, i.e. the period it takes to complete an orbit round Saturn is 21.28 days. The figure is also known as the sidereel period. The figure comes from N.A.S.A..

The Semi-Major Axis of the orbit is 1,500,934 km, which is the furthest point from the centre to the edge of an elliptical point.

The equatorial circumference of Hyperion is 848.2 km. The mean radius, that is the average radius of Hyperion is 135.0 km. The surface area of Hyperion is 229,022.10 km2. The surface gravity of the said item is 0.020 m/s2. The average orbit velocity, that is the speed at which it orbits is 18,462.9 km/h.

The orbital inclination, the angle at which Hyperion orbits in relation to the orbital plane is 0.615 degrees. The orbital eccentricity is 0.232, it is the degree at which Hyperion orbits close to a circular (0) orbit as opposed to an elliptical (1) orbit.

Hyperion was one of the first moons to be discovered that was not spherical in shape. The largest non-spherical moon title goes to Proteus which one of the moons of Neptune.
