Kore, Moon of Jupiter

Kore is a Moon that orbits round the planet Jupiter. Its orbit circumference, the total distance it travels round its planetary parent is 149,532,006.36 km. The furthest it gets from its orbital parent (apoasis) is 32,603,109 km. Its mass is estimated/calculated at being 14,986,684,330,972 kg. Its density has been calculated at being 2.6 g/cm3. Its volume is 4 km3.

Kore was discovered on 8 February 2003 by Scott S. Sheppard, David C. Jewitt and Jan T. Kleyna.

The orbital period, i.e. the period it takes to complete an orbit round Jupiter is 776.84 days. The figure is also known as the sidereel period. The figure comes from N.A.S.A..

The Semi-Major Axis of the orbit is 24,486,000 km, which is the furthest point from the centre to the edge of an elliptical point.

The equatorial circumference of Kore is 6.3 km. The mean radius, that is the average radius of Kore is 1.0 (assuming an albedo of 0.04) km. The surface area of Kore is 12.57 km2. The surface gravity of the said item is 0.001 m/s2. The average orbit velocity, that is the speed at which it orbits is 8,022.8 km/h.

The orbital inclination, the angle at which Kore orbits in relation to the orbital plane is 145.043 degrees. The orbital eccentricity is 0.3315, it is the degree at which Kore orbits close to a circular (0) orbit as opposed to an elliptical (1) orbit.

Pasiphae Moon Group

Pasiphae group of Jovian Moons are all believed to have been created from the same source, notably through the result of an asteroid collision. The remnants were captured by Jupiters immense gravity and became satellites.

The largest of the group is Pasiphae from which the group gets it name from. Although, believed to be the result of a collision, confidence in this is lower than other groups because amongst other things, they all have differing colours, eccentricity and inclination.

There is doubt as to whether Sinope is from the same source as the others. It may exhibit some of the characteristics but there is more to indiciate that its source is elsewhere. Pasiphae contains 99% of the mass of the group without Sinope being included, otherwise it is down to 87% N.A.S.A.
