Titania is a Moon that orbits round the planet Uranus. Its orbit circumference, the total distance it travels round its planetary parent is 2,741,352.92 km. The furthest it gets from its orbital parent (apoasis) is 436,780 km. Its mass is estimated/calculated at being 3,419,961,364,327,790,000,000 kg. Its density has been calculated at being 1.662 g/cm3. Its volume is 2,056,622,001 km3. It was discovered in the year 1787 by W. Herschel.
The Semi-Major Axis of the orbit is 436,300 km, which is the furthest point from the centre to the edge of an elliptical point.
The mass of the object is calculated at being 3,419,961,364,327,790,000,000 kg. The equatorial circumference of Titania is 4,956.8 km. The mean radius of Titania is 788.9 km. The surface area of Titania is 7,820,846.75 km2. The surface gravity of the said item is 0.367 m/s2. The average orbit velocity, that is the speed at which it orbits is 13,120.0 km/h.
The orbital inclination, the angle at which Titania orbits in relation to the orbital plane is 0.079 degrees. The orbital eccentricity is 0.0011, it is the degree at which Titania orbits close to a circular (0) orbit as opposed to an elliptical (1) orbit.
Titania is the largest moon that orbits the planet of Uranus. It is the eighth largest moon in the solar system with the largest being Ganymede which orbits Jupiter. Ganymede is nearly three times as large as Titania. The name chosen is because it is similar to Titan which means giant and reflects it is the largest of Uranus' moon.
The only time that a probe has visited the moon is when Voyager 2 flew past in 1986. All other observations and calculations have been done using telescopes both on Earth and in space.
The planet is believed to consist of ice and rock. The surface of Titania is littered with craters, but not as much Oberon another moon in orbit round Uranus. The largest crater is called Gertrude and has a diameter of 360 km.
In addition to craters, there are a number of Canyons, the largest canyon is Messina Chasmata which named after the town in Sciliy that is mentioned in the Shakespeare play "Much Ado About Nothing". The Messina is over 1500 km. The atmosphere is believed to posses a thin atmosphere of carbon dioxide that has been accumulated over the life of the moon. The canyons are cracks in the moons crust.Planets Edu.
The colour of the moon is reddish in colour generally except when a fresh impact has occurred when it is blue. Oberon is also red but Titania is not as red. Universe Today
Uranus revolves on its side and as it does so, a season can take 42 years. Imagine living on that moon, you'd have 42 years of winter before seeing another seasons if you're born at a certain time.
The moon may have been formed from the Uranus' accretion disk merging. The accretion disk is an area of materials that surround an object in space. Uranus is the second most well know planet in the solar system to have rings. Although rings are known by many to be round Saturn and Uranus, they are also known to exist round the other two giant planets, Neptune and Jupiter, the latter being discovered by the Voyager 2 space probe. It was discovered by Sir William Herschel, the German born British astronomer who discovered the planet and a few of the moons. William didn't name the moon, that was done by his son John Herschel. The moons were at the time of their discovery discounted by the Royal Astronomical Society, the lead organisation in the United Kingdom at the time. It would be a few years before their existance was accepted.
Unlike other celestial moons in the solar system, Uranus moons are not named after ancient gods or goddesses. The moons of Uranus are named after characters from William Shakespeare characters or from Alexander Pope's "Rape of the Lock". Rape is not used in the criminal sense of the word but means to grab, snatch.
Titania is a character from Midsummers Night Dream, Titania is the queen of the fairies whose married to Oberon. There are a group of Ancient Greek characters called the Titanesses who were the daughters of Ouranos (Uranus). Other moons such as Rhea are named after these titanesses. Theoi
