FL Aquarii

FL Aquarii Facts

  • FL Aquarii is a main sequence star that can be located in the constellation of Aquarius. The description is based on the spectral class.
  • FL Aquarii is not part of the constellation outline but is within the borders of the constellation.
  • Based on the spectral type (M3.5V C) of the star, the star's colour is red .
  • The star is calculated at being about 28.83 light years away from us. Distance

Location of FL Aquarii

The location of the main sequence star in the night sky is determined by the Right Ascension (R.A.) and Declination (Dec.), these are equivalent to the Longitude and Latitude on the Earth. The Right Ascension is how far expressed in time (hh:mm:ss) the star is along the celestial equator. If the R.A. is positive then its eastwards. The Declination is how far north or south the object is compared to the celestial equator and is expressed in degrees. For FL Aquarii, the location is 22 38 45.2813724538 and -20 36 51.812329450 .

Radial Velocity and Proper Motion of FL Aquarii

Proper Motion

All stars like planets orbit round a central spot, in the case of planets, its the central star such as the Sun. In the case of a star, its the galactic centre. The constellations that we see today will be different than they were 50,000 years ago or 50,000 years from now. Proper Motion details the movements of these stars and are measured in milliarcseconds. The star is moving -66.84 milliarcseconds/year towards the north and 424.50 milliarcseconds/year east if we saw them in the horizon.

Radial Velocity

The Radial Velocity, that is the speed at which the star is moving away/towards the Sun is -6.10000 km/s . When the value is negative then the star and the Sun are getting closer to one another, likewise, a positive number means that two stars are moving away. Its nothing to fear as the stars are so far apart, they won't collide in our life-time, if ever.

Physical Properties of FL Aquarii

FL Aquarii Temperature and Colour

Based on the star's spectral type of M3.5V C , FL Aquarii's colour and type is red main sequence star. Based on the star's spectral, the stars temperature is between 2,400.00 and 3,700.00 degrees kelvin.

Distance to FL Aquarii

The Parallax of the star is given as 113.11710 which gives a calculated distance to FL Aquarii of 28.83 light years from the Earth or 8.84 parsecs. It is about 169,480,769,508,883 miles from Earth.

The star is roughly 1,823,368.18 Astronomical Units from the Earth/Sun give or take a few. An Astronomical Unit is the distance between Earth and the Sun. The number of A.U. is the number of times that the star is from the Earth compared to the Sun.

Travel Time to FL Aquarii

The time it will take to travel to this star is dependent on how fast you are going. U.G. has done some calculations as to how long it will take going at differing speeds. A note about the calculations, when I'm talking about years, I'm talking non-leap years only (365 days).

The New Horizons space probe is the fastest probe that we've sent into space at the time of writing. Its primary mission was to visit Pluto which at the time of launch (2006), Pluto was still a planet.
