Asassn-15lh is a supernova remnant object of interest in space. It lies at a distance of about -1.00 light years away in the constellation of Indus.
The Supernova Remnant's location is 22h 2m 15.45s (R.A.) and -61:39:34.64 (Dec.).
The name if you say it sounds like Assassin 15, a secret hit man for a criminal organisation. In fact, the name means All Sky Automated Survey for supernovae, a less criminal organisation. It is one more interesting things in Indus, one of the more obscure and "quiet" constellations in the southern hemisphere. Although located in the Indus constellation, the star nearest as you look into the sky is Alpha Tucanae. At Magnitude 17, you will not be able to see if you looked straight up into space because it is so far away, you will need a powerful telescope, the type you wouldn't be able to pick up from a store.
It is located in another galaxy but it has the title of being the most luminous (powerful) supernova or should that be hypernova ever seen. To give you some scale, it was 570 billion times more powerful than the Sun. It was also 20 times brighter than the combined light emitted by our galaxy, the Milky Way. Later analysis suggest it wasn't a supernova but a star that was dying that came close to the supermassive black hole, the type that are in the centre of galaxies and was torn apart. The galaxy is located over 3.82 billion light years away and took 3 billion years to get here. Given the distance it happened, the destruction took place billions of years ago, when our Sun was in its infancy. The star was destroyed long before the dinosaurs walked the earth or any life existed for that matter. Roughly speaking, it occurred about 10 billion years after the Big Bang though. The most plausible explanation of what ASASSN-15lh was before the explosion is that it was a Magnetar. A Magnetar is a type of neutron star but is massively more powerful. The explanation is pushing it slightly but at the moment the most likely. A Magnetar as it name implies has a strong magnetic power, one that 100 billion times more powerful than the Sun. To produce the radiation that was seen, the Magnetar would have had to turn its magnetic and rotational power into radiation.Sky and Telescope.

The New Horizons space probe is the fastest probe that we've sent into space at the time of writing. Its primary mission was to visit Pluto which at the time of launch (2006), Pluto was still a planet.
